Economic Security: Neglected Dimension of National Security?

Dear Colleague,


National Security includes the strength of our nation's infrastructure, the foundation upon which the continuous growth of our society depends. This includes its strong societal and moral codes, the rule of law, stable government and political institutions and leadership. Also included are our nation's schools and educational programs to ensure a knowledgeable citizenry and life-long learning including science, engineering, R&D and technological leadership but most of all a strong economy - all the things Americans take for granted. Understanding the complex systems nature of National Security and why the economy is a part of the equation is the impetus for this symposium.


This two-day symposium will explore key issues relating to economic security; including the international influence of the economy in support of national interests, the importance of a national economic strategy, relationships between the government and industry, energy security, and the role of research and development, science, and technology in national security.


The program is open to the public. Participants are expected from government, business, universities, and research institutes from the United States and abroad.


There is a registration fee for this symposium for those who are not NDU staff, faculty, or students, which includes lunch. Registration and payments must be made using our online registration form. The registration fee is $80 until August 3rd and $120 on or after August 4th.

Vision and Foresight in Government Decision-Making: Project on National Security Reform (PNSR) Vision Working Group Book Launch Friday, July 30, 2010 8:30am-1:30pm.

Future scenarios are a time-tested tool to prepare for emerging challenges and to improve decision-making. Please join PNSR's Vision Working Group and CSIS at the launching of a new book, which explores the role of foresight and visioning in government decision-making, and proposes a Center for Strategic Analysis and Assessment within the Executive Office of the President. Copies of the book entitled "Project on National Security Reform Vision Working Group Report and Scenarios" will be distributed at the event.

Biography


Dr. Sheila R. Ronis is President of The University Group, Inc., a management consulting firm, and think tank specializing in strategic management, visioning, national security and public policy. She is also Director of the MBA/MSSL Program at Walsh College. She previously taught in the MBA programs at the University of Detroit Mercy and Oakland University. She is currently chairing the Vision and Guiding Principles Working Group of the Project on National Security Reform in Washington, D.C. www.pnsr.org. Her B.S. is in Physics and Mathematics. Her M.A. and Ph.D. are in Organizational Behavior and General Social Systems Theory from the Ohio State University.
